Ahoy Friends of CWB,
Another bustling summer sailing season has successfully wrapped up. Activity on the docks was as high as ever with our youth camps, boat rentals, sailing lessons, and captained charters. Those around Seattle long enough know though that September is the best month to be on the water. Our Sunday Public Sail in partnership with our neighbors at the Virginia V is a fabulous way to get out there for free. We’re also hosting the Annual Norm Blanchard W.O.O.D. Regatta for those who crave a little competition. Of course, you could always just come to say hi at our booth in Port Townsend for the annual Wooden Boat Festival. Be sure to pick up the 300th issue of Wooden Boat Magazine, on newsstands now, with a nice shout out to CWB for our history in boatbuilding education over the last 50 years.

2024 NORM BLANCHARD W.O.O.D REGATTA

Registration Is Open For Our Norm Blanchard W.O.O.D. Regatta:
Join us for a day of racing in our Norm Blanchard W.O.O.D. Regatta. We will be accepting registrations for racers 12 years old and up starting August 5. The regatta will be a daylong event including a BBQ after the racing (tickets sold separately).

We had an incredible summer on the historic Virginia V steamship! 🛳️ Throughout July and August, over 550 people joined us for unforgettable journeys across the beautiful waters of South Lake Union. From the stunning views to the rich maritime history, each ride was a unique experience that brought our community closer together.
A huge thank you to MaritimeWA for their support in making these free rides possible and helping us share the magic of the Virginia V with so many! 🌊 We’re grateful to continue celebrating our maritime heritage with all of you.

In this 3-hour class you'll learn epoxy safety, fillet techniques, applying fiberglass tape over fillets, fiber glassing over wood, fill-coating fiberglass, rail lamination, and how to install a breasthook. No pre-requisite required. This is a great class to take if you are looking to build a CLC boat kit!

In this class students will learn how to make their own half hull model of CWB’s favorite Livery boat, Blanchard Jr. Knockabout. Half Hull model making is a timeless and fun way to scale down the lines drawings of a vessel to make a beautiful model for your wall. Students will laminate the waterlines of the vessel and then carefully carve the designed shape of the vessel smooth. This is a fantastic, hands on, experience to get really intimate with a vessels shape.

Shaker Box :
October 12th-13th ,10am-4pm
Made as early as the late 1700’s, these shaker boxes created a reputation for themselves because of the craftmanship, style, and versatility. “Shakers” originally made them in New Lebanon, New York and the legacy has been passed down for generations. Good for storing dry goods or trinkets!
In this two-day class, you will carve, steam-bend, and rivet your boxes together.
There are no prerequisites for this class.

The Center for Wooden Boats - Youth Fall Sailing 2024
School year Sailing Programs are now OPEN for enrollment!
Calling all young sailors aged 8-14! Our Youth Fall Sailing program is back, providing a fantastic opportunity for recent Sail Youth 2 graduates to continue sailing and honing their skills this fall. The program focuses on having fun and spending more time on the water with various water-based activities and courses set up each session.
Program Details:
- Age Groups: 8-14
- Capacity: 12 sailors per session
- Tuition: $45 for Members; $50 for Non-Members
We will be using both El Toros (for ages 8-11) and Fevas (for ages 11-14) to suit different age groups. Sailors will be paired with a friend to enhance the learning experience and make each session more enjoyable.

Homeschool Sailing
September 26th - October 31st , Thursdays, 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM
Calling all homeschoolers aged 8-13! Join us for our Homeschool Sailing Program this fall, where students can learn the fundamentals of sailing in a fun, supportive environment. Over the course of six weeks, students will develop key sailing skills such as tacking, jibing, sail trim, weight balance, and capsize recovery while also learning essential terminology and theory.
Program Details:
- Age Group: 8-13
- Capacity: 12 students
- Tuition: $375 Members; $425 Non-Members
Sailing in teams of two, participants will enhance their communication, observation, patience, and teamwork skills. No prior experience is necessary—just come ready to learn and have fun on the water!

Summer Camp at The Center for Wooden Boats 2024: A Season of Learning and Fun!
This summer, kids at The Center for Wooden Boats had an incredible time exploring new skills and making memories on the water! Our Youth Sailing Classes taught campers the basics of sailing, teamwork, and water safety through fun races and water games, building confidence and friendships along the way.
In our Woodworking Classes, from Woodworking for Kids to Design & Build, young participants learned how to use hand tools and create their own projects, from simple birdhouses to imaginative designs. These hands-on sessions sparked creativity and fostered a sense of accomplishment.
Overall, it was a summer filled with learning, laughter, and new friendships. Kids walked away with new skills, cherished memories, and a love for sailing and craftsmanship. We can’t wait to see everyone back next year for more adventures at The Center for Wooden Boats! 🌊🛠️⛵
